What Is a CT Scan?
A CT (Computed Tomography) scan takes many X-ray pictures from different angles and joins them into detailed cross-section images. It shows bones, lungs, blood vessels and organs very clearly, and the scan itself usually takes under 10 minutes.
NCCT means plain CT without contrast. CECT means a contrast dye is given through a vein so organs and vessels show more clearly.
Before Your CT Scan
- Bring your prescription and any previous reports or films.
- Contrast (CECT) scans: 4 to 6 hours fasting, and a recent serum creatinine (kidney function) report.
- Tell us if you are diabetic and take metformin, have kidney disease, or have had an allergy to contrast dye.
- Tell us if you are or might be pregnant.
- Remove metal objects near the area being scanned.
Is CT Safe?
CT uses X-rays, so it involves a small dose of radiation. Our team uses the lowest dose that gives a clear picture, and the scan is done only when your doctor feels the benefit is clear.
