Ultrasound Questions Patients Ask
Is ultrasound safe in pregnancy?
Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is the standard test for checking the baby during pregnancy.
Why do I need a full bladder?
A full bladder pushes the bowel away and acts as a window, so the uterus, ovaries, bladder and prostate are seen clearly.
How long does an ultrasound take?
Most scans take 10 to 20 minutes. Anomaly scans and Doppler studies can take 30 to 45 minutes.
When will I get my ultrasound report?
Most ultrasound reports are given the same day, usually soon after the scan.
