CECT Brain (Contrast CT Head) in Patna
Contrast-enhanced CT of the brain at JP Diagnostic. A small injection of contrast makes tumours, infections and abnormal blood vessels stand out clearly, helping your doctor reach the right diagnosis.
When Is a CECT Brain Advised?
Doctors advise a contrast CT when a plain scan alone may not answer the question.
Suspected Brain Tumour
To detect a tumour or spread of cancer to the brain, and to see its size and effect on nearby structures.
Infection & Abscess
Brain abscess, meningitis complications and other infections show up better after contrast.
Ring Lesions
To evaluate ring-like lesions such as tuberculoma or neurocysticercosis, a common cause of fits.
New Seizures with a Lesion
When a plain scan shows an abnormal area that needs a closer look.
Follow-up After Treatment
To check response after surgery, radiotherapy or treatment of infection.
When MRI Is Not Possible
For patients with a pacemaker, certain metal implants or severe claustrophobia.

The Procedure
Registration & Screening
We check your prescription, creatinine report and ask about allergies, asthma, diabetes and kidney problems.
IV Line
A small cannula is placed in a vein in your arm for the contrast injection.
Scanning
Plain images are taken first, then contrast is injected and a second set is taken. You may feel a brief warm feeling or a metallic taste. This is normal.
Observation
You rest for a short while so our team can make sure you feel well, then the cannula is removed. Drink plenty of water for the rest of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between CECT and NCCT Brain?
NCCT is a plain scan with no injection, mainly for bleeding and injury. CECT adds a contrast injection to show tumours, infection and abnormal tissue more clearly.
Why do I need a creatinine test?
Contrast leaves the body through the kidneys. The creatinine test helps us confirm your kidneys can safely handle it.
Can I eat before the scan?
Please avoid food for about 4 hours before the scan. You can drink small amounts of water and take your regular medicines.
I am diabetic and take metformin. What should I do?
Tell us and your doctor when booking. Depending on your kidney function, your doctor may advise pausing metformin for a short time after the scan.
Is CECT Brain better than MRI?
MRI usually shows brain tissue in more detail and has no radiation. CECT is quicker, widely available, and a good choice when MRI is not suitable. Your doctor will decide which is right for you.
