USG FWB Routine (3.1 to 9 Months) in Bihar
Routine fetal well-being ultrasound at JP Diagnostic monitoring fetal growth, liquor volume, placenta, and position during the second and third trimesters. Essential for antenatal care across Patna, Gaya & Muzaffarpur.
What is FWB Routine Ultrasound?
A standard antenatal ultrasound performed between 13 weeks and term (3.1 to 9 months) to assess fetal growth parameters, amniotic fluid volume, placental location and maturity, fetal position, and basic anatomical survey.
Growth Parameters
Measures BPD, HC, AC, FL, and estimated fetal weight (EFW) to track growth trajectory and detect intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) or macrosomia.
Liquor & Placenta
Assesses amniotic fluid index (AFI) or deepest vertical pocket (DVP) for oligohydramnios or polyhydramnios. Evaluates placental position, grade, and previa.
Fetal Well-being
Confirms fetal heartbeat, activity, tone, and breathing movements. Assesses fetal lie, presentation, and number of fetuses.
When Do You Need FWB Routine Scan?
Routine fetal well-being scans are recommended at specific intervals during antenatal care.

| Cost in Bihar | ₹800 – ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 – ₹2,500 | ₹1,200 – ₹1,800 |
| Frequency | Every 4-6 weeks | Once (twice if indicated) | As clinically indicated |
FWB Routine is the backbone of antenatal monitoring — tracking growth, liquor, and well-being throughout pregnancy.
The Procedure
What to expect during your FWB Routine scan at JP Diagnostic. Total time: 20 to 30 minutes.
Check-in & History
Bring your antenatal card, previous ultrasound reports, and blood investigation results. Our sonographer confirms gestational age, LMP, and any risk factors. You lie semi-recumbent with abdomen exposed.
Scanning
Warm gel is applied. The transducer is moved systematically across the abdomen to measure fetal head (BPD, HC), abdomen (AC), and femur (FL). Amniotic fluid pockets are measured, placenta location and grade assessed, and fetal position noted. Fetal heartbeat and movements are documented.
Post-Scan & Report
Gel is wiped off. The estimated fetal weight and gestational age are calculated. Our radiologist reviews findings and provides a detailed report with growth charts and clinical recommendations.
How to Prepare
Preparation for routine fetal ultrasound is simple and comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about FWB Routine scans in Bihar.
In a normal pregnancy: once at 18-20 weeks, again at 28-32 weeks, and at 36-38 weeks. High-risk pregnancies (diabetes, hypertension, twins, previous complications) may require scans every 2-4 weeks as directed by your obstetrician.
FWB Routine monitors growth, liquor, and placenta throughout pregnancy. FWB Level 2 (anomaly scan) is a detailed anatomical survey performed once at 18-22 weeks examining the fetal brain, heart, spine, limbs, and organs for structural abnormalities.
No. Routine scans detect major structural abnormalities and growth issues but may miss subtle defects, especially those involving the heart, brain, or genetic conditions. The Level 2 anomaly scan has higher detection rates (60-70%), but no test detects 100% of anomalies.
Breech position before 36 weeks is common and often resolves naturally. After 36 weeks, persistent breech may require external cephalic version (ECV) or planned cesarean section. Ultrasound confirms position and guides delivery planning.
The cost ranges from ₹800 to ₹1,200 in Bihar. At JP Diagnostic, we offer competitive pricing with EMI and insurance cashless options. Call us for exact pricing.
Preliminary reports within 30 minutes, final signed reports within 1 hour. Emergency cases are prioritized.
3D/4D imaging may be available as an add-on if fetal position and amniotic fluid volume are favorable, typically best between 26-32 weeks. However, medical assessment remains the priority. Ask our staff about 3D/4D availability.
JP Diagnostic offers advanced obstetric ultrasound, experienced fetal medicine radiologists, NABH-accredited standards, and strict PCPNDT compliance across Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur.

Expert Opinions
When do leading obstetricians recommend FWB Routine scans?
Serial FWB routine scans are essential for every pregnancy, not just high-risk cases. They allow us to detect growth restriction, oligohydramnios, and placental insufficiency before the fetus is compromised. Early detection means timely intervention and better outcomes.
In diabetic pregnancies, we rely on monthly FWB scans to monitor fetal macrosomia and polyhydramnios. The growth parameters and amniotic fluid index directly guide our decisions about delivery timing and mode.
